My journey at Inspire Her Afrika began with a question – “How in the world do successful people consciously organise, set and achieve realistic goals?” This question always lingered on my mind maybe because I live exactly at the other end of the answer. I have always been puzzled about the ‘super’ ability to organise and achieve one’s own goals.
Like everyone else, I kicked off the year with these “huge” goals, and of course in the most disorganised way (a ritual. lol! 😄). Deep down, I knew I needed some mentoring to avoid business as usual. So, I made a decision right then and there — I was going to get INTENTIONAL about my growth. That meant a whole lot of learning, unlearning, and relearning.
Then, I found out about Inspire Her Afrika through the First Class Leaders Network, and it was like a light bulb moment. Even though I had my doubts about being ready for some serious accountability, it felt like a love-at-first-meeting kind of thing.
Optimistic about my mentorship, I also had a silent concern about my prospective mentor. I secretly hoped for a mentor that I could spill my fears and frustrations to (trust me, I’ve got a bunch of those). Our first virtual meeting turned out to be surprisingly friendly and relatable—totally not what I had imagined. So, check the first box!✌
Now, my tasks as a mentee haven’t come easy (lol! it shouldn’t anyways), but each task prepares me DIFFERENTLY and shaped me in its own unique way. From setting clear, realistic goals with precise objectives to giving my social media platforms a makeover (yes, those ones I’d left for “to whom it may concern”), and even crafting an elevator pitch and a personal development timeline—I’ve been on quite the journey!
While these tasks weren’t overly easy nor difficult, I have had an amazing time doing them. For instance, the task of developing a personal development timeline task was something else. It was like taking a trip down memory lane, and not all those memories were sunshine and rainbows. But, this task gave me the opportunity to put down these experiences for the very first time, and it gave me a nostalgic feeling of how I beat the odds in my lowest lows and rose regardless.
And there’s more! I’ve had virtual mastery sessions on personal branding and money management. What stands out for me is how almost every area of my life is part of the Inspire Her Afrika mentorship programme’s ‘Grand Plan’ with so much to look forward to. Thank you Inspire Her Afrika for this selflessness.
I’m happy that I have taken a few steps leading to a thousand more miles. While I believe in process; I have braced up to the task. I am not yet where I want to be but I wouldn’t be caught looking backwards 😊.
